I graduated in Science and Technology of Forest Systems in 2023. I carried out a thesis in the phytopathology field, studying the fungus Biscogniauxia nummularia, the causal agent of beech tarcrust of beech, carrying out field and laboratory surveys. I was able to collaborate with the CNR-IPSP in the realisation of the thesis, I had the opportunity to learn traditional and molecular diagnostic techniques, starting from the isolation of the pathogen from asymptomatic beech woody tissues through to genetic sequences analysis and application of real-time PCR.
In the thesis, ecophysiological aspects of the host-parasite interaction were addressed by applying instrumental investigations aimed at assessing the health status of the beech stands studied. As part of the thesis, I was able to use UAV surveys to calculate some vegetation indices (e.g. NDVI, NDRE). I recently concluded my activity as research fellow at IPSP-CNR in the PRIN “MONTANA” project with Dr. Alessia Lucia Pepori as Principal investigator, in which University of Padua is a partner.
In this project, I was able to carry out phytopathological surveys tasks both in the field and in the laboratory, exploiting my practical knowledge of molecular and traditional diagnostics. Now I am carrying out my PhD project, focused on phytosanitary surveillance in the contest of Horizon Europe “FORSAID” project, in which IPSP-CNR is a partner.
